Sermon series

Jesus and the Kingdom of God

Currently, during 2008, we are hearing about the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom is God's reign coming here on earth as it is in heaven and God calls us as his followers to do the works of the Kingdom ourselves. Whenever Jeremy (the Vicar) preaches he will be speaking from Mark's gospel convinced that as we model ourselves on Jesus the works he performs are meant to be our works too.

The Values of the Kingdom

In fact three parallel teaching series will be running at the 10.30am services all concerning the Kingdom of God.

First, our All Age services will continue with the team picking suitable teaching themes each time within the Kingdom of God idea.

Secondly, whenever Jeremy is speaking, he will continue with a range of ideas mostly based in St Mark’s Gospel, as he has been doing for some weeks now.

Thirdly, when others are preaching, we shall be following a series on the Sermon on the Mount in St Matthew’s Gospel looking at the values of the Kingdom. There will be six in the series.

  1. Our attitudes – the Kingdom way (Matt 5:1-12)
  2. Our relationships – the Kingdom way (Matt 5:27-32, 7:1-6)
  3. Our enemies – the Kingdom way (Matt 5:38-48)
  4. Our possessions – the Kingdom way (Matt 6:1-4; 19-24)
  5. Our prayer and fasting – the Kingdom way (Matt 6:5-18; 7:7-12)
  6. Our concerns – the Kingdom way (Matt 6:25-34)

This will help us look at how we need to reshape our thinking and then our lives to live in tune with the Kingdom that we now belong to as Christians.
