Club Genesis (or "The Shack", as most of the kids like to call it) is our Friday night open youth club. Our vision for the club is to provide a safe and happy place where the young people can be themselves and where they can, if they wish, discover more about what it means to be a Christian.
STOP PRESS : Currently Club Genesis isn't running due to the fire in the shack. We hope to use this time to create something even bigger and better for the Friday Night youth Club. Once we have sorted out accomodation and our ideas the club will start again.
We cater primarily for 8-14 year-olds (school years 4-9 inclusive). We have some older members, but they are here on the understanding that they are helpful to us.
Every term-time Friday evening we have an optional "God Slot" between 7.30 and 8pm. From 8 - 9.30pm we host between 25 and 50 local young people for an evening of pool, table-tennis, arts and crafts/cookery/general creativeness, tuck shop, table-football, table-tennis, air hockey, indoor games involving parachutes or soft balls or dancing, Play Station, giant jenga, worship and prayer. In the summer we also have outdoor football, basketball, frisbee, man-hunt and the like.
The club is run by Pod - the church youth and community worker, with a mixture of church members and parents of kids who come, all of whom have to be CRB-checked and adhere to our child protection policy. We have clearly set-out rules and a "red and yellow card" system to control behaviour.
