Building Project

I see now actually work been going on in the bowels of the site including the beginnings of the flat roof over the foyer/entrance area. Brilliant. And a load more materials have arrived looking like they are for the pitched roof between the hall and the Centre - over the kitchen and loos. This is the roof on which we hope to put photo-voltaic panels to harness the sun as power source.

Seems to me there is waiting going on ... waiting for something to do with the roof? Work still on the Centre roof repairs and other bits and pieces but basically - waiting.

Been hard to see what's happening last few days and some rain delay but here are some photos of the roof. It still awaits the zinc covering.

Work has been obvious all this week - huge amount of materials going onto/into the roof. Planks of wood, boards more beams, insulation. Makes the engineering look very impressive to be supporting that and distributing the weight evenly and down to the ground.

The repairs to the Centre roof have also taken place with the noise causing us to relocate prayers at 9:00 to other side of the building.  Not complaining: they are working fast and its looking good.

Friday the crossbeams for the roof went up - today it has been the rafters onto which the roof itself will be fixed. Its got eaves and everything. Also new scaffolding around the back of Christ church centre - for presumably getting the roof fixed. Pcc has given go ahead for most urgent repairs to be done.

I have found myself very stirred by watching the building go up. Not like I want to cry or anything but some deep emotions going on. Watching the skill of the builders - and there is a lot of skill I am seeing; seeing something appear from nothing; knowing that the Centre will now be literally twice the size it was; the sense of change, movement, dynamism - and good change at that; the opening up of opportunity; deep satisfaction, pride in the fact that we did this ; wanting to live in a way that fills the new building, not staying put in the half-site; the feeling that something real is happening - not just the normal routines or familiarity; the way the site looks at the moment - tightly packed, walkways floating in mid-air, busy busy busy. This is good.

Here's a photo of the new brickwork on the parapet ...

and all that new stuff on pallets that has arrived is in fact the insulation for the roof ... so maybe a roof arriving soon?

Action today includes more heavy duty scaffolding appearing at roof height. Also there is fresh brick work on the existing Centre as the parapet is replaced. More intriguing is some fresh pallets of delivered goods which are unidentifiable from the outside. What can it be I am thinking to myself?

This is the ceramic that has been lost. I am pretty upset myself but I know they tried hard to save it. Ironically this is the picture on our home page of this website!!

This is it, the final bit of brickwork - the hole of it we could say. aha aha ha ha ha

A view from the Vicarage - literally.
