Building Project

Today has seen the filling in of two windows of Christ Church Centre. These are they which will form one wall of a new meeting room. It is also today that a load of scafflding has turned up  -  so that the walls can be built even higher!! Here are a few photos.

All action today with massive crane enabling the woooden, glued laminate (glulam) beams to be slotted into place. I saw them lying there and wasn't sure they would be long enough. But they were. Also the crane helped slot in the steel uprights for the porch area and much brick laying going on both blocks and bricks.

The walls are looking fantastic - look at these pictures. Some of them are up to head height. The builders have also prepared the brackets for the interior roof beams on the steel frame. These cross beams should be going up within the next few days.

There is what only can be described as a "wall" going up to the rear of the new hall. It is now at head height with suitable gaps appearing for what i assume will be doors/windows etc. Lots of activity ... excellent.

The brickies have been at it laying the external wall - this is the outer shell, this is the bit that will be visible finally. Excellent.

Yesterday was miserable weather wise and being on site basically meant waiting for delivery of mortar and machinery. Today, though, ACTION! More bricks, unloading as we speak; forklift moving bricks around the site and it looks like bricklaying.

Work has gone quiet since this floor been laid. Looks just like the plans.

This is what was happening yesterday

The builders then added a comprehensive set of special concrete blocks between the beams to cover it over completely.

What has been happening today is that the dry sand/cement mix has been spread over the whole floor plan and then watered by hose presumably to solidify into a useable foundation. It looks great.

The drive was shut today for a massive crane lifting loads of concrete beams onto the foundation brickwork. These were laid out and then fixed across the entire site with about a foot gap between each one. The beams each had a flange/lower shelf either side and onto these, filling each gap, were loaded specially delivered breeze blocks. They didn't look quite the same to the others we have had. Any how there is now an entire suspended concrete foundation floor.
