Christ Church and Me
Our Vision and Values
When I came here two things particularly appealed to me about Christ Church:
- Many people here are eager to be actively involved in the life of the church.
- And there is a real love and emphasis on children and families.
Together we are building on these to fulfil our aim of being a worshipping, mission-focussed Christian Community .
It is best expressed in our Vision to be an ALL AGE COMMUNITY on a SHARED JOURNEY OF FAITH making THE EDGE THE CENTRE .
- We take seriously our call to be a suitable community for all regardless of age or ability;
- we recognise that faith is a never ending journey of discovery and experience, one which we travel on together;
- and we try to put those who are at a distance from God or from society or from us (on the edge) at the centre of our thinking and activities.
We are aware of our need for the Holy Spirit to inspire and direct our mission. We are learning what it means for us to be open to his prompting
- through inspiring worship,
- through the word of God preached
- through the gifts of the Spirit
- through prayer and fasting
In other words, our calling is to fully be the people of God and to powerfully do the works of the kingdom.
That's the journey we're on and which you would be part of if you visit or join us.
To this end we are
- fully committed to running the Alpha course three times a year (an introductory course to the Christian faith developed by Holy Trinity Church in Brompton, London and used around the world) .
- developing Clusters to make it easy for those coming through Alpha to integrate easily into our wider life together. Clusters also foster other mission activities.
- committed to an annual Works Weekend and FUN DAY . This takes place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend each year when we do projects in and for the community. We call this our Works Weekend . On the Saturday we freely commit to doing large scale community projects (often painting or gardening, refuse collecting etc.).
In the past we have
- painted the whole of the outpatients department of the hospital (2007)
- painted the Library and entrance to Margaret Wix Junior school (2005)
- done many other smaller projects.
- On the Monday we run a FUN DAY at which everything is free.
It’s great. Hundreds of people come and stay for the afternoon, relaxing in something good freely given with no strings attached.
